In Inner Archaeology, Mie Hørlyck Mogensen assumes the role of an archaeologist of the interior, excavating traces, memories, and imagined histories from a shifting mental terrain. Working within the poetic tension between speculation and doubt, she constructs a narrative in which uncertainty and possibility carry as much weight as documented fact.

At the centre of the exhibition is Nina, a woman travelling from Denmark through Europe. Across the works, fragments of her life, relationships, and movements gradually emerge, forming an elusive portrait that oscillates between the biographical and the fictional. Rather than seeking to establish a definitive account, Mogensen approaches Nina’s story as an open field of inquiry, where gaps, projections, and ambiguities become generative material.

The exhibition also includes Staged Documentation, a photographic series developed in collaboration with photographer Tobias Kiel Lauesen. Moving between document and construction, Mogensen and Lauesen explore the unstable territory between reality and fiction, phenomenon and idea. The collaboration both extends and anchors the speculative dimension of the wider body of work surrounding Nina, questioning how images produce evidence, memory, and belief.

Throughout the summer, Horisont will further unfold as a space for talks, seminars, and performances with Mie Hørlyck Mogensen, extending the exhibition beyond the works themselves and opening its questions to collective reflection and exchange.
